What To Do? Is it Easier to make one site that makes $3000 per month or 100 sites that make $30 per month?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or the No-Hype, No-BS, No Spam MAT newsletter.. Thanks for visiting!

Have you ever had those days that you just have writers block.  Well, I am having one of those days.  I just have not thought of anything to pass along.  Even though I have ran into some very interesting information.  For example, the guys over at 45n5.com are in the middle of a discussion as to what a newbie should do first.  Create 100 sites that product $30 dollars each or one big site that produces $3000 dollars.  I left my opinion on the subject with them.  But, I am a little split on the subject.

Yes, I have the mindset of creating multiple sites as seen by my goals posts, but who wants to maintain 100 sites day after day.  I guess if they are all making the desired money I would…

How about one $3000 dollar site.  Well, it is possible.  Check out How I Made $860,538.38 PROFIT in 4 Months! from Super Affiliate Zac Johnson and For Sale: Profitable Adsense Templates Business from johncow.com.  Both of these sites are run by super affiliates.  Super affilaites are affiliate marketers that make six figures or more a year.  They have burst the bubble of making a great site and hitting the goal of $3000 dollars per month many times over and these are just a few examples of how it could be done.

But the websites that they created were fabulous ideas.  Most newbies will not have these kind of ideas coming out of the gate.  So, for a newbie to make $3000 with all of his/her eggs in one site, it is possible but very unlikly..

So which way is best?  Would you make one $3000 site or 100 $39 dollar sites?

If it were me as a newbie, I would say invent one $3000 site a year and use the rest of your time on the 100 niche sites.  Your eggs are not in one project and you still will accomplish the goal one way or another.

Case Study DFOSCOM - Part 4 - Wordpress to Website Tutorial

In this part of my case study on Designer Online Fashion Shopping I’m pretty much at the finish line.  The blog is pretty much a website at this present time.  The only features left to fix is removing any menu tabs, except for the home, tab at the top.   Once the menu tabs is gone you are finished.  You will have a website that is performs just like a website but has a back-end of a blog.  This last part is pretty easy and will probably take one more paragraph.  OK, lets get started.

I want you to log back into your wordpress admin panel.  You should be at the Dashboard at this present time.  I want you click the Presentation link on the top menu.  This will put you into the theme admin area.  Click theme editor at the top.  This will bring up all of your theme files.  Now, the tab section should be in your header.php file.  I want you to look for a code that looks something like this “<?php wp_list_pages(’sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=&exclude=367,553′); ?>”.  The main part that you are looking for is the wp_list_pages.  You will need the comment out this line like so: <!– “<?php wp_list_pages(’sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=&exclude=367,553′); ?> –>.  Hit the save button at the bottom right and your done.  Look at the template again to see if all the tabs are gone except the home tab.  If so, you now have a fully functional website.

I would now start installing necessary plugins that will help you to improve you SEO, as well as, start monetizing your website.  Take a look at the related articles below for needed plugins answers.

If this post helped you or even gave you an idea please scratch my back with a tip. I sure would appreciate it.  This post was brought to you by TTZ Media. Make money online by running TTZ Media ads.

Case Study DFOSCOM - Part 3 - Wordpress to Website Tutorial

Now where did I leave off.  Oh yeah, yesterday I explained how and why I am going through this case study.  Just a recap, this case study is mainly to help me save time when creating new websites.  As I stated earlier the faster you can create a keyword directed (very important) website the more money you will be making.  Time is money and treat your time as very valuable.

Next, I want to explain what needs to change on a wordpress blog to make it act and feel like a website.  In actuality this is still a blog, but you don’t want people to think it is.  The main reason for this is that visitors will expect continues updated information to a blog.  That is not what you are trying to accomplish with this type of website.  This type of website is mainly to increase your AdSense income with a website that you may only spend 1 hour a week with if that and also with that you want to sprinkle in a few affiliate programs to.

Now, wordpress is a very powerful tool that will allow you to do most of the tweaks that I am about to provide.  So, don’t think changing wordpress is too difficult.  Believe me, if I can do it you can also.

Now, the next step is to find a theme. Finding a theme need not be an expensive ordeal.  There are plenty of FREE wordpress themes available.  Visit wordpress themes and pick any theme that you like.  But, I would recommend that you pick a theme with 3 columns.  It usually looks better and allows for more advanced monetization methods.  Download the theme and upload (ftp) it to your wp-content/themes folder.  Once that is done log into your wordpress admin panel and scroll the top menu.  Click Presentation and pick the theme that you just uploaded.  It should now be your default theme.  If you go to the top and hit (View site->) you should see the theme on your blog/website.  That was an easy step wasn’t it.  If not please ask questions and I will try to help.

Writing a Front Page:

The last step for this part is to write your front page.  By default your front page is an index of the top 10 to 20 post that you write ie a blog.  This needs to change.  You need to write a concise front page that describes what the website is about and what you are trying to accomplish.  Here are the steps to completing a front page for your new website.

  1. To get started log back into your wordpress admin panel.

  2. On the top menu you should see “Write”, click this and you will be put into the “Write Post” dialog.  You don’t want this.  Instead Click the “Write Page” button at the top.

  3. You are now in the correct dialog.  Write your front page information.  When you have completed writing hit publish.

  4. Your front page is now published but it is not the front page yet.  Now, at the top menu you will see “Options”.  Click this button.

  5. Next click reading and on the reading page there is a option to make a static page the front page.  Check this option and select the page that you just finished and hit save at the bottom of the page.

  6. The front page is now the most recent written page.  Click the “View Site” button at the top and see how it looks.  You may have to do one more tweak to remove the tab from the top of your web-page depending on the theme that you obtained.  But that is a easy fix.  You will just have to comment out one line in your theme.  I will cover that tomorrow and hopefully finish up this case study.

I hope this is all making sense.  If not please leave comments.  This one tool could accelerate your AdSense income and get you some more money in your pocket.  Till tomorrow, signing off..

Case Study DFOSCOM - Part 2 - Wordpress to Website Tutorial

I wanted to followup on my case study of changing a wordpress blog into the look and fill of a regular website.  For this post I will use the example of my DFOS.com website.  For those who have not read the original post new experiment case study dfoscom, here is a summary.  My experiment was to see if I could change a wordpress blog to a regular website.  My main reasoning for this was to be able to:

  1. Not re-engineer a .net website

  2. I wanted a easy RSS implementation

  3. I wanted a easy way to add content

  4. I wanted to be able to put up a fully functional site in 2 to 3 hours.

Point 4 was/is the most important point.  I grew tired of writing .net sites that took me a week or more to design, write and promote.  With the completion of this experiment I am now able to implement a site in one day with original content and promote/market the site the next day.  Time is money and the faster you are able to put content up and get it accepted into the search engines the faster you will get a ROI.

Setting up the website:

I don’t want to put all the aspects of creating this kind of website in this one post.  I feel that it would take up too much time and I will lose you in the transition.  So, I will split it up into small chunks  starting with the easiest part, uploading wordpress.

I know that most of you will probably know how to do this.  But for those few that don’t I wanted to give you a step by step guide in uploading and setting up your original wordpress implementation.  To complete this guide you will need a ftp tool, and the wordpress code.  You can download the wordpress code from wordpress.org and in order to ftp I use smartftp.  It is free and very easy to use.  Download and install on your system.

 SmartFtp

Open it up and enter you site domain name and login/password at the top and hit the arrow key to log into your websites ftp account.  Next go to your wordpress code base that should be located on your local drive and drag and drop it into your root directory.  On most Linux servers this will be public_html.  Next is the waiting game for all the code to upload.  If you are lucky the people that you host your website with will have it downloaded and available in your control panel.

When everything is finished and uploaded, enter http://(yourdomain)/wp-admin.  On initial downloads your database config file will need to be setup.  Wordpress will walk you through this process with entering in the name of your database, your user name, password and localhost (where your database is located).  Most databases will be hosted with the same server as your domain.  In this case the location of the database will be the localhost.  If the database is hosted on another database the hosting company will provide to you the path to the database.  Once you have this information enter is where localhost is located.  Also, setup the mail system for your wordpress site.  Make sure the email address that you enter is correct because your passwords will be email to that address.

If everything checked out wordpress will return a message stating that everything is complete and your wordpress blog is ready.  It has not be transformed to a website yet so, don’t get worried.  That is enough for today.  Just getting to this step is a real task for most.  Don’t hesitate to asked questions if you get stuck.

Ah traffic, love it or hate it. Well depending on how you look at it, right? For instance, I hate driving around in crazy traffic. People being cut off, left, right and center. Speeding only to just slow down, really what's the point of that? It's no wonder that so many people have road rage. With the price of gas...? Not so much fond of the driving kind of traffic!

Then of course there's IM's world of traffic. You know, the traffic that we actually like! We want hordes of people like we see everyday on the streets, driving into our websites. We want them to stick around, check out our products and buy up whatever it is that we are selling.
