I thought it would be useful to mention some of the pitfalls that I have learned in my short time as a affiliate marketer.  Newbies, take heed, do not follow in the same mistakes.  Some of these could discourage you and make you remove yourself form affiliate marketing.

  1. I know there are systems out their that say blogging with affiliate material on a free bog account like blogspot.com is a good idea.  But I tend to disagree.  Google is getting better at finding blog accounts that cater only to affiliate marketing.  And when they find these sites they are quick to cancel these sites without notice.  Take for example, I started a free blog with blogspot.com and I reached approx 50 to 70 blog entries.  I also had great positions for my keywords in the search engines.  Blogspot.com canceled this blog and in one day my income dropped from 75 dollars per day to 25 dollars per day.  To me this was a significant loss.
  2. Don’t get domains that have copyrighted names associated with them.  Early in my affiliate marketing career this was definitely a problem for me.  Don’t fall into this, its not worth the aggravation.
  3. Have a marketing plan in place as soon as you launch a website.  Going back and trying to put a marketing plan together takes a lot of time away from your development of the website and it is reflected in your web copy.  Especially, if you’re writing your own content.  Most people starting this kind of business are fitting this business in with a working schedule and if your spending all day trying to get the marketing together, you will not have time to create more content.
  4. Content is King:  You have to build content around your landing pages.  Content also attracts traffic to your website.  Add content as often as you can.  Push for adding at least 20-30 pages of content each month.
  5. Try to build viral marketing into your sites:  I can’t stress this enough.  Your site will not become as large and well know unless you are able to get people to talk about your site and leave comments on your site.  The more comments left the more visitors you will receive.  It does not guarantee the money will increase but you will have a better chance of capitalizing with the increased traffic.
  6. Set goals every month: Setting goals every month will keep you focused and will get you on the road to success.

I hope these suggestions will help you stay focused and receive your blessings.
